Obstacles and Setbacks: Real Opportunities for Progress

Client resistance. “Difficult” clients. Failure and frustration. Many coaches fear and avoid these. Yet ambivalence, resistance, failure, and frustration are normal and natural parts of change for both clients and coaches.

Often, they give us important information about what to do next, and what skills to help our clients build.

This talk will cover:

  • How to know when obstacles and setbacks are actually opportunities for growth and progress;
  • How to work with resistance rather than against it;
  • How to build resilience in our clients;
  • How to manage our own feelings as coaches in the face of setbacks.

Exercise is Medicine: How to Keep your Clients Motivated

Physical activity, training, the right diet, and a few more factors can work like a medicine. But are people taking these medicines enough? And for how long?

There is a lot of scientific evidence showing that regular physical activity, nutrition, and other lifestyle factors have health benefits. Despite this evidence, it remains difficult for people to take this medicine sufficiently and for a long time. About 50% of all people stop their exercise program within the first six months. You see this pattern in a nutritional program, but also in a treatment program with a physiotherapist. Motivating and coaching healthy behaviour is therefore very important. It is necessary to actively support your members, patients and customers in maintaining the program. To achieve this, you need insight and a balanced cocktail of strategies.

In this session, a wide range of strategies and practical tools are presented, based on scientific theories and research. The participant also receives practical tools that you can immediately apply in practice.

Keep your Clients Engaged; in Person and Virtually

Do you ever wonder what the best program is for your clients and how to help them reach their goals? Why can’t we just write a one-size-fits-all workout and call it a day, is it really that big of a deal? The answer to these questions is YES and you can separate yourself from other trainers by understanding what each client needs based on how they move and progressing them in a manner that will help to achieve goals they never thought possible. Join Wendy Batts for this session where she talks about using the evidence based NASM Optimum Performance Training (OPT) Model to incorporate planned variability in client training programs to keep them engaged, prevent plateaus, and effectively train from anywhere.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Virtual and In-person assessments;
